Forest and land fires occur annually in Indonesia and other countries, impacting natural resources and ecosystems, and contributing to climate change. Fires in peatlands cause more severe environmental damage, including transboundary haze pollution that affects human health with respiratory infections, asthma, diarrhea, eye irritation, and skin diseases. Most of the smoke originates from illegal burning to convert forests and peatlands into oil palm and industrial plantations. These fires result in significant social, economic, and environmental losses, and ecosystem restoration takes a long time. Prevention and stakeholder involvement are crucial in controlling forest and land fires in Indonesia. Faculty of Forestry and Environment, IPB University and France Embassy will conduct 2nd Fire International Conference: “Strengthening and Collaboration on Tropical Landscape Fire Management ”.
